Calvin Russell: Northwestern High School Football – Newest 5 Star looks to continue Northwestern Tradition !!!
Calvin Russell is currently a sophomore at Miami Northwestern High School in the football hot bed that is South Florida. He has recently been lauded for his football excellence and earned himself a five-star rating from NUC Sports. Russell is now being touted as a top college football prospect for the 2026 class.
Russell has been around the game of football since he was a young kid, and credits much of his success to the hard work and dedication he put in while growing up. Athletics are something embedded in his family DNA. Mom, Chanivia Broussard is a member of the University of Miami Hall of Fame for her stellar basketball career from 2000-2004.
A multi sport guy, Calvin has excelled in both basketball and track. He already has scholarship offers from Arizona State and Penn State after averaging 18.8 points per game, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals as a freshman on the varsity level. In track, he has posted a 5-11.5 high jump, 41-3 triple jump, and run a 59.82 400 meter time. He started training when he was young but took it to an entirely different level once he enrolled in high school and has really benefited from the work he has put in.
Russell has always been a major contributor to his team, but his work ethic and natural athletic ability really began to shine through once High School rolled around. During this time, he proved himself to be a team leader and a reliable asset on the field. He is often the go-to player when his team is in need of a big play.
In terms of physical ability, Russell is a natural athlete, at 6.4” 180 pounds he is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. The 2026 prospect has been under center in most of his tape but projects to be a WR in college. You can see he has quick feet, giving him the advantage to win releases at the line of scrimmage. His knowledge and background in basketball allows him to use his great leaping ability to out jump opponents. He has strong hands and a large catch radius allowing him to catch whatever is thrown his way. Additionally, his strength and power are top-notch which allows him to shed defenders and make the first guy miss. Growing up around the game gives him another attribute in possessing an incredibly high Football IQ. All of these attributes helped him earn his five-star rating from NUC Sports.
Calvin is now being recruited by some of the top college football programs in the country. His future looks bright, and it seems likely that he will gain even more recognition and success in the future. A Northwestern Alum and current Head Coach Teddy Bridgewater knows a thing or two about playing at the highest level and will only aid him in the process. He is sure to go far in his college and what projects to be a stellar professional career.
Off the field, Russell is a leader both in the locker room and in the community. He mentors younger players and is a role model for aspiring student athletes. He is also involved in a number of community outreach programs, and he works hard to ensure a bright future for the communities he serves!
The future is extremely bright for this talented athlete no matter what position in college he chooses to play. A game changer and play-maker for sure. The 2026 prospect has a slew of schools looking to bring him onto their campus. The sky’s the limit for this guy no matter what program he plays for. I can see this young having an immediate impact at whatever institution he chooses!
