Akili Smith Jr. : Lincoln High School Football’s newest 5 star is on a mission !!
Akili Smith Jr. has been destined to be a quarterback his entire life. Entering his junior year at Lincoln High School in San Diego, California. He has recently been lauded for his football excellence earning a five-star rating from NUC Sports, and is seen as a top prospect for college football.
Akili Jr. has been around the game of football his entire life. His father led the Oregon Ducks and was the former Pac-10’s Offensive Player of the year in 1998. Akili Jr. started playing football as a young child, and attributes much of his success to the hard work and dedication he put in while growing up. He knew from a young age that this sport was something he really enjoyed. He started seriously training when he entered high school and started to gain recognition as he developed.
Akili has always been a major contributor to his team, but his work ethic and natural athletic ability really began to shine through during his sophomore year. During this time, he threw for 2,432 yards and 29 TD’s with only 4 interceptions. He continues to prove himself to be a team leader and a reliable asset on the field.
In terms of physical ability, Smith is a natural athlete. He has great speed and a tremendous arm making himself a natural duel-threat, Additionally, his accuracy and football IQ are incredibly high. Each of these attributes have helped him earn his five-star rating from NUC Sports.
Smith has already given his verbal commitment to be an Oregon Duck just like his dad in the late 1990’s. That being said, it hasn’t taken away from the top college football programs in the country continuing to recruit him. His future looks bright, and it seems likely that he will gain even more recognition and success in the future.
Off the field, Smith is a leader both in the locker room and in the community. He is a mentor to younger players and a role model for aspiring football players. He is also involved in a number of community outreach programs, and works hard to ensure a bright future for the communities he served.
Akili stands at 6.6’ and weighs 200 lbs, he can both throw and run at a very high level. A QB legacy, he has a lot on his shoulders, but even as a junior, his maturity both on and off the field is one of his best attributes. Oregon will not only have a great player, but a great leader !!
