🔥 RECRUITING GAME-CHANGERS 🔥 5 Tactics to Get Noticed
🔥 RECRUITING GAME-CHANGERS 🔥 5 Tactics to Get Noticed

The Recruiting Game Has Changed
In today’s hyper-competitive football landscape, getting noticed isn’t just about what you do on game day. The best players understand that recruiting is a 24/7 process that happens both on and off the field. At Boardwalk Beasts Football Club, we’ve seen firsthand how the recruiting game has evolved, with technology and social media creating new opportunities—and challenges—for aspiring athletes.
The truth? Most talented players never get the attention they deserve because they don’t know how to market themselves effectively. But that won’t be you. Not after you master these five game-changing tactics that have helped our Beasts players get noticed by scouts and coaches at every level.
Tactic #1: Share Highlight Clips That Tell Your Story
Highlight reels aren’t just compilations of your best plays—they’re your visual resume. In a world where coaches may receive hundreds of highlight videos weekly, yours needs to stand out from the first second.
What Makes a Great Highlight Reel:
- Start with your absolute best 3-5 plays: Coaches often decide within 30 seconds if they’ll keep watching
- Keep it concise: 3-5 minutes maximum for most positions
- Show versatility: Include clips demonstrating different skills relevant to your position
- Add subtle graphics: Include your name, position, graduation year, and key stats as overlays
- Quality matters: Use the highest resolution footage available, even if it means fewer clips
“I watched over 200 highlight reels last recruiting season,” shares one Division I coach. “The ones that got my attention weren’t always the most athletic plays—they were the ones that showed football IQ, technique, and consistency.”

Distribution Strategy:
Don’t just post your highlight reel and hope for the best. Be strategic:
- Upload to platforms coaches actually use: Hudl, YouTube, and Twitter
- Create position-specific cuts for different programs (some schools might value different skills)
- Update your reel at least twice per season (mid-season and end of season)
- Send direct links to coaches with personalized messages referencing their program
- Include your highlight link in your email signature, social profiles, and recruiting platform bios
At Boardwalk Beasts, we help our players create professional-quality highlight packages that showcase not just athletic ability but football intelligence and character. Check out our recruiting resources page for examples of standout reels from former players.
Tactic #2: Stay Active on Social Media (The Right Way)
Social media isn’t just for sharing highlights—it’s for building your personal brand as an athlete. But there’s a right and wrong way to use these platforms when recruiting is your goal.
The Social Media Playbook:
- Twitter/X: The coach’s platform of choice. Follow programs and coaches you’re interested in, engage meaningfully with their content, and share your football journey.
- Instagram: Perfect for visual storytelling—training videos, game day preparations, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into your work ethic.
- TikTok: Increasingly important for showing personality and creating viral football content that might catch a coach’s eye.
“What many players don’t realize is that coaches aren’t just evaluating talent—they’re evaluating character,” explains our Recruiting Coordinator. “Your social media is a window into who you are when no one’s watching.”
Do’s and Don’ts:
✅ DO share your academic achievements alongside athletic ones
✅ DO highlight community service and leadership roles
✅ DO engage positively with your current team and coaches
✅ DO showcase your training regimen and work ethic
❌ DON’T post controversial content or negative comments
❌ DON’T badmouth coaches, teammates, or opponents
❌ DON’T overshare personal information
❌ DON’T go silent for long periods—consistency matters
Remember, college coaches are increasingly using social media as a pre-screening tool. A standout digital presence won’t get you recruited on its own, but a problematic one can absolutely take you off a coach’s list.
Tactic #3: Build Coach Connections That Last
In recruiting, relationships are everything. The player who builds authentic connections with coaching staffs has an enormous advantage over the athlete who only reaches out when they want something.

The Relationship-Building Blueprint:
- Research before reaching out: Know the coach’s background, coaching philosophy, and recent team performance
- Initial contact strategy: Brief, personalized emails that reference specific aspects of their program
- Follow-up protocol: Don’t spam, but don’t disappear—maintain contact every 2-3 weeks with updates
- Camp connections: Attend camps where target coaches will be present—personal interaction is invaluable
- The thank-you difference: Send handwritten notes after meaningful interactions—almost no one does this
“Coaches remember the players who show genuine interest in their program beyond just wanting a scholarship,” notes our Head Coach. “Ask thoughtful questions about team culture, academic support, and development philosophy—not just about playing time or scholarships.”
At Boardwalk Beasts, we teach players to keep detailed notes on every coach interaction in a dedicated recruiting journal. This helps personalize future communications and demonstrates serious interest. Even small details like remembering a coach’s alma mater or congratulating them after a big win can separate you from the crowd.

Tactic #4: Keep Your Profiles Updated and Professional
Recruiting platforms and profiles are often your first impression with coaches. Outdated or incomplete profiles signal to coaches that you might not be serious about your athletic future.
Profile Optimization Checklist:
- Essential platforms: NCSA, BeRecruited, Hudl, and sport-specific databases
- Update frequency: Monthly at minimum, immediately after significant achievements
- Critical stats: Keep current measurements (height, weight, speed, strength numbers)
- Academic transparency: GPA, test scores, and academic achievements matter enormously
- Video integration: Ensure your latest highlight reel is prominently featured
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been interested in a player but found outdated contact information or year-old stats on their profile,” says one college recruiter. “That’s usually the end of my interest right there.”
The Competitive Edge:
The most successful recruits understand that profile optimization is ongoing. Set calendar reminders to update your profiles regularly with:
- New game statistics
- Updated physical measurements
- Academic achievements
- New highlight clips
- Community service hours
- Camp/combine results
Remember that college programs at all levels are looking for complete student-athletes. Your profile should tell the story of who you are beyond just your position and stats.
Tactic #5: Attend Big Events That Matter
Not all camps, combines, and showcases are created equal. Strategic event selection can dramatically increase your visibility to the right coaches.

Event Selection Strategy:
- Target program events: Prioritize camps held by schools you’re genuinely interested in
- Regional showcases: Choose events known to attract multiple coaches from your target level
- Position-specific clinics: Specialized training events often have better coach-to-player ratios
- Elite tournaments: National competitions like those featured on our news page put you against top competition
- Exposure events: Some combines focus specifically on getting players in front of college coaches
“The mistake many players make is attending too many generic events,” explains our Director of Player Development. “It’s better to attend three highly-targeted events than ten random ones. Quality over quantity applies to recruiting events too.”
Before Any Event:
- Research which coaches will be attending
- Send emails to target coaches letting them know you’ll be there (include your jersey number)
- Have your highlight reel recently updated and readily shareable
- Prepare your 30-second personal introduction for coaches
- Have business cards with your contact info and highlight reel QR code
After Every Event:
- Send follow-up emails to coaches you met
- Update your profiles with any new measurables or achievements
- Add any standout performances to your highlight reel
- Connect with coaches and fellow athletes on social media
- Request feedback when appropriate
At Boardwalk Beasts, we prepare our players for these events through our practice schedule that includes dedicated recruiting preparation sessions.
