Had to be they had to be sponsored in Order to they had to have a place to go When they got here you had to have Everything lined up before they let you In they had a sponsor through the church The church sponsored them oh okay my Mother my mother they they came to America they went to uh um originally to Chicago Church sponsored Presbyterian Church sponsored them then they then From there they moved to to Bowling Brook Illinois um and they went through their Process and it used to take 10 years for You to become a a Le I mean my mother Wasn't a Citizen uh until 10 years down the Line uh Frank what's your story with Your dad and his journey from Italy Coming to the states where did he go Through Ellis Island and then make his Way up through UA he did okay he was one Of the last last year and it was on one Of the boats they take you over on boat Correct and they do all the paperwork And you actually have to have like a Sanctuary like a place to go have a Sponsor you have a sponsor called a Sponsor he came over he come over here And had a sponsor here in uica New York So that's where he started out but he Had met okay he had met my mom on the Beach that he grew up on back in 1960 5960 and then within a year's time him
And four or five of his best friends all Got together and they just realized they Had to get out of the country basically Bally there were three things you could Do at that time in 1960 in in Europe but In Italy especially is one you could uh Being admitted to the Army so two week Two-year draft uh you basically you're Going into the army for two years the Second was you could uh work for some Region of the mafia so you could just be A strong arm or a guy who goes around Doing jobs for for uh uh the mafia um The third thing was the third thing was You can get out of the country so they All chose the third thing um they all Made their plans so there were six of Them uh two ended up going to Australia Three ended up going to Brazil and my Father ended up coming here to the US Because he met my mom in on a beach she Was there for a summer vacation for two Months so he met her on a beach and he Wrote her letters all the time and Through and then all a sudden he's like Hey I'm coming I'm coming over and Basically he's coming over to get Married so he can stay try to stay in The country oh that's true because if You get married you can stay right now Isn't that easier if two legals get Married they say
