David Smith: Butler High School Football – Latest NUC 3 Star QB carries on Family and School Legacy !!!
David Smith, a 2026 prospect at Butler High School in Morris County, New Jersey has recently been lauded for his football excellence. The Bulldog QB who recently led his Group 1 school to a state sectional title has earned a three-star rating from NUC Sports, and is seen as a top prospect heading into his senior season.
Smith is both the next high caliber QB at a high school that by some accounts could be labeled as QBU but also the next within his own family. Butler High School, a group 1 program which in New Jersey is the smallest of the groupings, has over the past 30 years produced numerous high level QB’s! The school has produced 3 Gatorade Player of the Year at the position, not bad for a school with an enrollment of under 400 total students! In a “Friday Night Lights” town, where Football matters, he has been playing the Sport since he was a young child. His older brother Evan, also attended numerous NUC events and was one of those Gatorade Player of the Year QB’s. He led Butler to it’s most recent title, a 2018 State Sectional Championship and just recently finished his college ball at Castleton University.
David attributes much of his success to the hard work and dedication he put in while growing up. He would constantly watch his brother both on and off the field, the time, the dedication, and ultimately fell in Love with the Game himself. After entering high school, he really amped up his training both physically and mentally. He earned the starting job as a Junior after playing in the open spread offense from the time he was in middle school. Smith continues to grow and mature with every snap and rep taken.
David has always been a major contributor to his team, but his work ethic and overall athletic ability really began to shine through once he entered high school. During this time, he proved himself to be a team leader and a reliable asset to his team and coaches. As the starting QB he is often the guy you wanted to have the ball when his team was in need of a big play. The leadership qualities, something that obviously is in the bloodline comes naturally, controlling the game from the line of scrimmage with such pose and calmness.
In terms of physical ability, Smith is a natural athlete. He has excellent lower body strength allowing him to have a great base when making his throws. Additionally, his arm strength and accuracy are top-notch, allowing him to throw a quick catchable ball. Overall his greatest attribute might be his football IQ. He has an innate QB perspective allowing him to process defenses and expose weaknesses within most defensive schemes. All of these attributes helped him earn his three-star rating from NUC Sports.
Off the field, the 2026 QB as previously mentioned is a leader both in the locker room and in the community. In a small town like Butler, and most towns across America, High School athletes and especially football players can be viewed by the youth as heroes. David exemplifies everything you would want your child’s hero to be. He is a mentor to the younger players within his own locker room and an excellent role model for aspiring student athletes. He and teammates are also involved in a number of community outreach programs, and work hard to ensure a bright future for the entire community that shows up to support them every Friday night!
