Walter Payton was born on July 25th 1954 In Columbia Mississippi A standout at Columbia High School he electrified Crowds before starring at Jackson State University from 1971 to 1974 rushing Four over 3,500 yards Drafted fourth Overall in 1975 by the Chicago Bears he Became one of the NFL's greatest running Backs Nicknamed Sweetness Payton rushed For 16,726 yards over 13 seasons He won NFL MVP in 1977 and earned a Super Bowl ring In 1986 Somebody XXX inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 Payton Dedicated his postc career to Philanthropy and organ donation Awareness Walter Payton passed away on November 1st 1999 but his legacy lives On through the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award
