NUC Houston 2018 Combine Writeup

Houston Event

The NUC Houston event is the 1st event of the NUC Southwest tour and the athletes didn’t disappoint at all with their display of athleticism and effort during the event. The combine was filled with some good testing numbers and showcase was evenly divided throughout each position group which made for a very competitive 2on2 and 1on1 sessions. Though the event was filled with a number of good players here are some of the ones that stood out and performed very well during the event.

 

2019/2020

 

Top Performers

 

JaDarius Clark (2020) DB Alexandria Senior High 6’3 162lbs

 Clark is a long rangy defensive back.  He has excellent closing speed to go along with great ball skills.  He has ability to play press and off coverage. Clark showed great technique with his backpedal and the ability to turn in run with wide receivers.  He was the Overall MVP of the camp

 

Cord’dric Walton (2019) WR Fort Bend Dulles HS 6’ 154lbs

 Walton is a speedy Wide Receiver who is capable of running past defenders.  He is very shifty in and out of his breaks. Walton has the ability to catch the ball in traffic and take the top off the defense with his deep routes.  He has great athleticism and good hands. He was the camp Wide Receiver MVP.

 

Hananiah Green (2019) LB Alvin HS 6’ 232lbs

 Green is a explosive linebacker.  He used his hands well to re-route receivers he also displayed the ability to match routes out of the back field and from the slot.  Green uses his size well and has pretty good ball skills.

Chase Pena (2019) QB Humble HS 6’1 195lbs

 Pena showed pin point accuracy during the camp.  He also showed that he is able to throw the deep ball with touch and the intermediate throws with great accuracy.  He showed great base and footwork in the QB drills. Pena was excellent during the 2on2s and 1on1s complete a high percentage of his throws.  He was the Quarterback mvp of the event.

 

Other Notables Performers

 

Bertis Mobley Jr (2019) FB Dulles HS WR– Great size and athletic build for a wide receiver.  He ran great routes and was very good in and out of his breaks.  He showed good hands along with the ability to make big plays.

 

Jordon Britton (2019) Clear Lake HS DL– Strong lineman that uses his hands well and is very explosive.  Plays with a great base and uses his feet well. He showed good counter moves during the 1on1s

 

Dexter Wyble Jr (2020) Humble HS QB– Wyble showed all of the leadership skills you needed to see from a QB.  He also displayed great touch with the football and the ability to throw the deep ball.

Top Performers

 

Zyan Primes (2021) QB Shadow Creek HS 5’9 144lbs

 Primes is a talented young QB who got better as the camp went on.  He did a great job of taking what the defense gave him and he showed very good accuracy and ball placement during the 2on2s and 1on1 portion of the event.  He is very coachable and was the 7th-9th QB MVP

 

Caleb Flagg (2022) RB North Shore MS 5’3 137lbs

 Flagg showed excellent fundamentals and great footwork at the running back position.  He is very quick in and out his break and has excellent hands. He has the potential to be a great back in the future because of not only his ability but also his effort.  Keep an eye on this young back he was Coach J top performer.

 

Jordon Vaughn (2021) RB Manvel HS 6’2 190 lbs

 Vaughn as a freshman already has the size and stature to be a good running back.  He was great throughout the camp from the testing to the football portion of the event.  He showed raw talent and athleticism throughout the event. He was the event combine king.

 

Jadin Cooper (2021) DB Lamar HS 5’10 159lbs

 Cooper is a young defensive back with good technique and ability to cover and break on the football.  He showed good ball skills and the ability to break up passes he was good in press coverage and good in off man.

 

Other notable performers

 

Dylan Pitru (2021) Sterling HS QB– Great young QB with good arm strength and accuracy.  Pitru showed great footwork fundamentals. He was very effective completing passes throughout the day.

 

Bryce Fucik (2023) St. Laurence Catholic QB– This young gun slinger was very impressive throughout the day.  He showed the ability to be able to make a lot of the throws that a kid his age will struggle with.  He has a quick release and the ability to squeeze the ball in small windows

 

Kaleb Smith (2023) Smith MS (TX) DB-  Young DB that showed great potential.  His technique is very good and he is going to be a great defensive back as he gets older.
