Uh this is in honor of Christitis who works with the baseball Team and is dreading getting on a bus Today and going to Villanova by bus for Their series against uh the Wildcats. But as we Saw, Yukon started off very very badly Early on in the season in their Non-conference schedule. They played Duke. They played North Carolina. They Played UNC Greensboro. They even Struggled against Campbell. They Struggled against um Miami. Um they beat Vanderbilt. They lost to UCLA and they lost the UFC in the Dodger Classic. But since they have started to play more Of a league friendly sket Um they beat Quinnipic Xavier Kraton. Um their last main loss I Believe was Toraton. They've handled Georgetown. They beaten BC. Um they beat SE they Swept Satan Hall in a three-game series. They beat UMass. They beat Army. And Then they most Recently swept St. John's, Ruters, and um I know they lost to Ruters and they beat Rhode Island. So They are starting to they are starting To figure things out and they're 11 And4 in the conference.
Yeah. Yeah. And you know, and they're 11 And two at home. Yeah, they're 11 and Two at home. They they take care of Business at home. They struggle on the Road. It seems overall that Pitching has been not the best. They Have a 5.76 team erra. Now, their Opponents have an erra over seven Against them. Their bats are phenomenal. So, so I mean they're not their Opponents aren't lighting the world on Fire either um with a seven point Whatever Erra, but it it started Um I was going to go back to the army Game. The Army game really started um a A win streak there. They beat Army 12 to Five And this Was home. Yes, this was home. Um and There's some games that go nine innings And some games that go seven innings. That I kind of have to figure out that I Don't know how how that works. Uh their Top Player so far Offensively Is what's his face? Uh he plays first Base and he's he's a DH. What's his Face? Well, I'm I'm I'm gonna get his Name momentarily. It's Tyler Minnick. Tyler Minnick. Yeah, he's Yeah. Bad 372. He plays he plays first base and he
DH's. He's got 16 home runs on the year, 54 RBI's. He's played in uh all 40 Games. He started 39. The second best on Offense as far as production is Ryan Daniels. He plays second base. He's Batting .352 and he has 10 home runs, 46 RBI's, and he has been playing very Well. He's he leads the team with 12 Doubles. And what I like is you look Down their list, they have seven guys Batting over 300. So that's always a Good sign. And they've they've changed Things around as far as as the lineup Goes. They they kind of mix things up. Um I wasn't sure. I think you get a Choice if you want your pitcher to bat Or not. That's part of the choice that They have. Um Rob Respullley is another One of their top players. Um he plays he Plays Shortstop and you know they try to do Load management with Tyler Minnik having Him DH and play first base and Ryan Daniel seems to play every day. So that is good. And then pitching wise, Well, they have a superstar pitch as a Reliever. They do. Yes. Yes. Yes, they do have They do have a superstar as a reliever. Um I am I'm looking right now to see. I Know. I know that is a 1.3 erra. An eight. Yeah, that's Yeah, That's Brady. Brady Afr. Brady Afrum.
Um, and their winningest Pitcher is Sean Finn, who's five and One. Um, five- one in 16 Appearances. And he has Wow. And he also Has four saves as well. So, that's That's interesting if I'm reading that Correctly. No, he doesn't. No, he Doesn't. He has zero saves. Brady has All the saves. Brady is their closer. Brady has thrown 26 in innings pitched And he has given up 22 hits, seven runs And only four earned runs. Four earned Runs and 26 inke. Yeah. Yep. 41 Strikeouts and he is third on the team In strikeouts. Ian Cook leads the team With 61 strikeouts, but he also has a 6.75 ERA and is two and four. So, that's Uh that's a pretty high ERA for striking out all those players. And he has only pitched 41 Well, I mean, He's pitched 41 innings, which I guess Is fairly high. And I Ian's given up the Most home runs, him and Tom Ellison. So, Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, they they have They have a very deep roster of Pitchers. Um, yeah, they did. I did not know that they carried that Many pitchers. Um, and then on the other Side of the ball, they really don't they Don't have that many active. One, two, Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, Nine, 10, 13 active um hitters guys that play
The field. Have this many p as many Pitchers. I don't know if that's the Same every they almost have that many Pitchers, you know. Yeah, I assume they Do because of the Situation because they, you know, you Always want to carry Pitching. Yeah, because pitching carries A day and you can play three games in a Week, right? So, yeah. Yeah. From the Series that I've I've looked at their Schedule, Um they mostly play Uh like Friday, April 25th, they played A double header at St. John's. They they Won both games. Um then they played him On Sunday and then they played Ruters on Tuesday and that that was one of their Losses at stores which was very rare. And then they beat Rhode Island Uh at home on April. I believe if they Come out with uh three victories against Nova and they take care of business Against Buffalo or Butler that they will They will have won the conference. Now, I'm not exactly sure how the playoffs Work in Baseball. If it's if it's regional, if It's top six, you know, like uh any Other tournament where they it's Regional, it's the top 16 teams that go. The SEC schools, the the Southern Schools, we struggled against UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, we beat Vanderbilt. Um, we we we beat Miami in a Three-game series, two games to One. Campbell University, Campbell was our arch Nemesis. Campbell beat us 2 to1. Uh, North Carolina was ranked 17th and they Beat us five to one. And then UNC Greensboro swept Us three games to nothing. Uh, we lost To Boston College. That was kind of Stuck in there. Nor Eastern was kind of Stuck in there. I don't know what Conference Northeastern would be in. Um, I think they're in they might be in the Same conference as Albany. I'm not Sure. Quinnipic. We played we we've played one Or two games against Quinnipic. Bryant was cancelled. We beat Hofra. Swept Georgetown. We beat BC. UNCC. Collie. What? We beat you UNC. We didn't beat UNCC, did we? I saw I saw it at the beginning of the Year. Nor Eastern is 33 and9 this year. Series and pull out three victories Starting today. Well, no, no baseball's better in the SEC as far as No, I mean, it's it's Tough to compete because of obviously The weather, obviously the talent they Get. Yes. Yes. the ACC and the SEC are where Baseball is at, right? Um, and it was, You know, it was a miracle. I remember Last year being at the Belmont and Watching Yukon play Florida State in the Final Four, right? But it just goes to show, I Mean, who does more with less than Yukon? I mean, we we we don't have the NIL Money. We don't we don't I don't believe We have a ton of transfers. I I think I Think baseball Wise, we we get pretty good Uh talent relative to our our division. So, the uh for the Big East. Yes. Yeah. And we we've been dominating the Big East for a while now, you know, so In baseball. And Penders is definitely One of the best coaches in the country. I mean, I think he played at Yukon. Yeah. And and Coach Block still gets out There and throws batting practice still. Yeah. Coach Block will throw batting Practice for Yukon and then I believe back number Two.
I Believe that he um he coaches at Eastern Connecticut State as Well. At least that's what he he had Told me. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. He still gets Out and he throws batting practice. Uh Chris was telling me that and he still Uh manages the Eastern Connecticut State Team. He managed them to a national Championship a few years ago. He was Saying he's a volunteer assistant there. He Was He was the head coach when you were There. Yeah, he was. He was cuz he would Always he would always come in the Locker room and talk to us and we'd we'd Be dead on our feet and he'd have a Smile on his face. I'd be like, "Who's This guy just laughing? Just think this Is hilarious that we're all Dead." And he just he he'd been through It before. He's like, "Yep, this is College football, guys. Get used to it." They're all 320 plus. Um when you got a Guy like Tyler Minnik who's 372 Um 58 hits, eight doubles, 16 home runs, 54 RBI's leading the Team. I was just trying to see what year He was. Um because that would that would be Interesting to see because uh baseball I Mean they Play typically all summer right and Tyler Minn's only a a Sophomore so he'll don't play those Leagues where they get looked at. Yeah. The wooden bat leagues. Yes. Yeah. Tyler Minnik is only a sophomore, So he'll be around. Um, they have a Relatively they re I mean they they they Do have upper classmen. They have a Couple red shirt seniors. They have a Couple graduates. Um, graduate Students, senior, graduate student. They Got some red shirt Freshman, graduate student. I'm trying To see what their pictures Are. Yeah, I mean, they're they're They're definitely an older team, which Is good. They're mature. They've been Here before, and I'm sure they want To close this out, close out their Careers on a high Note because they they've been so close Um for so long. They they it'd be nice To get it done and they've won the Big
East and it'd be nice to take it to the Next level. Yeah, no doubt about it. Um They have a pitching coach, recruiting Coordinator. It's It's just amazing to Me how football has 48 guys on staff. Baseball, one, two, three, four. They Have they they have legitimately three Coaches and they have one Two Volunteers and they have a trainer. That's It. How crazy is that? It's totally Different. Football and basketball have 10 million coaches. Baseball has three Two volunteers. It's crazy. It just it it just it just Blows my mind. It it does not seem Right. And I and I wondered how many Scholarships they have. Uh not many. Bailock was trying to explain it to me. They split it. They split it. Yeah. That They that they get like 12 and they have to split it up. Yeah. Yeah. And they definitely got good Quality for the 12 guys that they they Brought in. Yukon has And they don't Yeah. But I think if They if they can keep this tear running And how they've been playing, especially As of recent, Um they have an excellent chance to Advance, survive and advance through Everything because they have good Coaching, they have, you know, talented Pitching and they they got the bats that I mean They're scoring runs like Crazy. I mean, 13
