NUC Sports Houston Football Combine Top Performers

February 26th, 2017

By: Coach Jarvis Johnson

The 2017 Southwest NUC tour kicked off with the Houston Event held at Fort Bend Christian Academy.  Many athletes came out to participate in the event, including some of the top athletes from the Houston area, different areas of Texas and outside of Texas. The camp was filled with athleticism and a variety of different talents.

Top Performers 2020/2021/2022

Kobe Banks- Co 2020 (WR) 5’7 ½, 146 lbs, Cypress Ranch HS.

Banks started the day off with a blast by coming out and running a 4.21 in the Pro-Agility followed by a blazing 4.57 in the 40 yard dash.  The momentum carried over to the position drill, 2v2’s and 1v1’s. Banks proved to be that he could not be guarded.  He was excellent in his stem, cut with precision and he broke out of his routes.  He also did a great job restacking defenders once he ran past them.  Banks was the 7th-9th Overall MVP.

Adrian Cormier- Co 2022 (RB) 4’11, 100 lbs, David Crockett MS.

Cormier competed like a kid that wanted to prove that big things come in small packages.  He was excellent in the individual period. He displayed great footwork and fluid hips.  During the 1on1s and 2on2s, Cormier made some impressive catches. Multiple times the ball seemed just out of his reach but he was able to snatch them out of the air. He earned Coach Johnson Top Performer Award at the camp.

Jarrie Spikes- Co 2020 (LB) 5’11, 173 lbs, Cy-Creek HS.

Spikes already has the last name of a linebacker. During the event, Spike showed the physical and mental toughness it takes to play the position.  Spikes used his hands well and showed great ball skills during the 1on1s.  He is a nice size for his age.

Other Top players

Dane Presto Co 2020 (QB), Fulshear HS.

Presto makes the right throws, shows great accuracy and has great arm strength.

Jalen Paxton  Co 2020 (WR), Manvel HS.

Paxton has great size, good in and out of his break, and the ball well.

Korill Mearridy Co 2022 (DB), Amite Westside MS (LA).

Mearridy has great off man coverage, very physical, attacks the ball well and a very coachable player.

Top Performers 2018/2019

T’Vondre Sweat- Co 2019 (DL) 6’4, 242 lbs, Huntsville HS.

Sweat showed power and speed off the edge.  He has an arsenal of moves to get pass offensive lineman.  Sweat also showed great leadership and character throughout the event.  This young man has an incredible upside to many other athletes. He is a multi-sport athlete which contributes to his footwork and athleticism  He was the camp Overall MVP.

Preston Higginbottom- Co 2019 (OL) 5’11 ½,  276 lbs, Seven Lakes HS.

Higginbottom was the anchor of the offensive line group.  He showed great use of his hands and feet by getting a strong base to keep defenders in from of him. He did a good job redirecting after the counter-move of the defensive lineman.

Cole Hanafan- Co 2018 (QB) 6’4 ½, 235 lbs Elkhorn South HS.

Cole shocked most of the coaches when he walked into the room and said he played quarterback.  His size would make you think he was a tight end, but that all changed when we hit the field.  Once on the turf, Cole proved to have all the tools to be a Top QB.  He was accurate, showed great arm strength and has the ability to make the difficult throws.  Coming down from Nebraska, Cole has plans to lead his team to a 3rd state title.  He was the camp 2018 QB MVP.

Thomas Davis- Co 2018 (DB) 5’8, 157 lbs, North Shore Senior HS.

Davis had a huge day at the camp. He started out by running a 4.5 in the 40 and a 4.35 in the pro agility. He then went on to jump 34.5 inches on the vert and 9’11 on the broad jump.  Davis proved to be a lockdown defender with the closing speed and ball skills to break up passes.  Davis was the camp fastest man, combine king and DB MVP..

Other Top Players

John Harrington Co 2019 (QB)  Seven Lakes HS.

Harrington is a very athletic QB with good accuracy and great decision making skills.

Coleby Hamm Co 2019 (LB)  Klein HS.

Hamm is an agile linebacker with great athletic ability.  He showed great hip mobility.

Terence Norman Jr.  Co 2018 (DB) Manvel HS.

Norman will catch the ball in traffic, has strong hand and runs good routes.

Arjei Henderson Co 2019 (WR) Travis HS.

Henderson ran great routes and showed the ability to be a great WR. This OU commit showed why he has over 18 offers.
